American Physical Therapy Association, Washington DC chapter (APTA DC) and the Health Equity & Anti-Racism Team (HEART) established a high school pipeline program to increase engagement and matriculation of minority students into physical therapy. This program is a year-long didactic and in-service teaching program that emphasizes critical application and development of interpersonal relationships, ultimately shaping young leaders with the goal of diversifying our healthcare system.

Currently, this pipeline program has been integrated in two high schools, and we are actively seeking licensed physical therapists to join our team of mentors, speakers, and volunteers so that we can continue to expand into more schools in our community.

Please contact us at heart@aptadc.org if you would like to join our team!

PREP: Physical Rehab Exposure Program has begun!
  • PREP is a year-round program where high school students attend monthly sessions during their fall and spring semester. Each session focuses on a particular specialty area within our profession (i.e. Ortho/Sports, Neuro, etc.). Their summer will consist of an internship and connecting with a mentor.
  • PREP is looking for curriculum builders, behind the scenes planning, and student session volunteers most immediately. The attached flier provides more information about these opportunities and how to sign up.
